Some of you were interested in how i would overcome my unfortunate engine melt down on Saturday. (Broke the timing chain on the v12)

Well the donor car is going to serve a greater cause. so here are some shots of this evenings work. May not look like much, but these cars are engineered......way over engineered.

Up in the air (Parts car)

looks scary

love that intake

cooling system and rad out

exhaust out

drive shaft out

parts piling up fast

continuing Saturday and the forseeable future

Yep the pic shows the IRS so that is the back.  Now as to those tires, although old, they look like some nice rubber. If I remember BMW right they are probably a 225 or 245 / 50 /16

You just might be missing a 'c' in the sentence above mine there, Marcel. Keep the pics coming!

Had to put the donor cars front suspension back together so she could be rolled out of the bay.

My car rolled in with the newer motor patiently waiting in the background

can t believe I have to do this all over again. 10 hours of real work to get the donor motor out. Lets see if I am little quicker this time??

So you want to grab a tape measure and measure from the front of the engine, at the pully and back to the bell housing?  Just curious how long that engine really is.

Practice makes perfect!
Try not to make it a habit so you become and EXPERT though eh?

And Dave -- it's not that big. it's only a 6cyl!  If you stand on one side.  Ha ha.

We need to rebuild it, and throw it in a Fiero. Would be pretty gnarley.

I don't think you'd want to rebuilt it. A BMW v12 that snapped it's timing chain, would be a messy project.
I wanna go fast.

I was just thinking off in way left field, the BMW V12 coupled to a TH425 so it would be a longitudinal swap, unfortunately have to lose the trunk, but I'd bet it would fit, and you could have a real V12 Fiero.  Only 2 catches would be getting an adapter plate made for the bell housing and getting the Fiero instruments to run on the BMW sensors, might have to add in a few extra bits to make it all play nice.  I wonder if the BMW computer has been hacked or not?

This is not a project I would ever try, however I think with the right person and time it is feasible.

I thought that years ago, some German (Dutch? other?) guy overseas was trying to do this.

I seem to even remember him posting pictures of his shop, and it was like 2ft wider than the Fiero! Brick building.

September 8 and I drove the transplanted v12 home tonight. This engine is smooooth. what a difference.

Anyway sorry i didnt post pics of the engine going in. I figured i spent about 38 hours pulling things apart and putting it back together.

I'll have to keep a watch during the shake down and no more redlining!

Taking the damaged engine apart (heads off) showed a broken timing chain, ten bent valves and eight piston heads indented. I'll continue the dismantle to see if anything is salvagable
