back to me. Discussion about this will be at the next
meeting. Please remember dues are due March 8th meeting.

Glenn

Hello Glen,

Thanks for phoning about booking for the West Coast
Fieros Club to come here on April 26th or 27th. As
promised, I’m emailing information about our tours and
prices (see below). To make a booking, I need the
organization’s name/address/phone, your chosen date and
arrival time, and how many people – split
adults/seniors/youth. Then I email your Booking
Confirmation. If there are fewer than 10 people, there’s
no need to make a booking.

We’re open from 9am to 5pm. You may book to arrive
whenever you wish from 9am onwards. To get the most out
of your visit at the Britannia Mine Museum, you should
allow two hours if possible. If you’re also interested
in our one-hour guided tour at the EPCOR Britannia Mine
Water Treatment Plant, you should allow three hours if
possible.

Have a look at this information and let me know if you
have any questions – I’ll be glad to help.

45-minute Mine Tunnel and Mill Guided Public Tour
Train ride into the atmospheric early-haulage mine
tunnel. Our Interpreter explains the miners’ working
conditions and demonstrates the drills and equipment in
the early 20th century. Continue into the Mill, an
impressive structure, dramatic industrial interior, built
into the mountain-side, one of the last gravity-fed Mills
in North America. Our Interpreter explains how the Mill
operated, how rocks were transported and crushed, how
minerals extracted.

Self-Guiding
Browse the exhibits around the site and in the Visitor
Centre, A-Z of Britannia and Machine Shop. Try gold
panning and watch the informative 15 minute documentary
Groundbreaking – The Britannia Story – in the Theatre.

Our Hour Water Treatment Plant Guided Tour (minimum 15
people)
A chance to see environmental remediation in practice.
Our Interpreter explains the historical acid rock
drainage problem, shows the equipment in operation,
describes how the water from the mine tunnels has been
rerouted and diverted to the equipment at the Water
Treatment Plant. With a hands-on replication of the
process, you can see how water is treated and cleansed of
toxic minerals, prior to being discharged into Howe
Sound. Note that your group needs its own transportation
to/from the Water Treatment Plant – it’s 2 kilometers, 5
minutes drive.

Price for Pre-Booked Groups

One person to pay for everyone. No deposit required:
pay on arrival by VISA, Mastercard or cheque.

Britannia Mine Museum Guided Public Tour and Self-
Guiding:
$18.90 + tax per adult
$15.20 + tax per senior (over 65) or youth 13-18

Guiding:

This run will be happening on Sunday April 27th.

This will be a good run to get back into the driving
season, as it is not super far.

If you are interested in attending this run, post here or
let us know so we can better plan for how many are going
to attend.

Harrison, count me in. After winning the quarter annual
$20.00 at the club meeting. I don't know about the rest
but, it would be nice to have the Guided tour on the
Sunday if possible.
Thanks

I've been there before so not really interested in the
guided tour, but would like to make the run out there.

I get out of church at 10:00am. If you folks have already
gone, I will meet you there and drive back with you.

K

Address for Canada Games Pool in New Westminster is 65 E
6th Ave with a cross street of MacBride. As you come off
the Pattullo Bridge heading north towards Vancouver,
continue about 1k to 6th Ave and turn Right. Parking lot is
behind the Fire Hall.

What route are you taking to get to highway 1? I will be
doubling back from Willingdon and Moscrop to get to Canada
Games pool. It might be more convenient just to meet up on
Highway 1 as you pass by.

If not, I can make it to New West by 10:30...I think.

See you folks.

Alright, tomorrrow is the run.

Sorry I am so late at this, but here is a proposed route.

here

We will meet at the big parking lot of canada games pool around 10:00am.

We will get together, make sure everyone know where we are going, and has a GMRS radio. I will get a couple extras for anyone who doesn't have one.

We will leave from there at 10:30 am. and take Mcbride up to 10th, where we will turn left, and then go down to Canada way and turn right. We will follow canada way to Kensington where we will get on Hwy 1.

On our way up, if anyone wants, we can stop at a scenic lookout for some pictures before stopping at the brittania mines parking lot.

After we are done at the mines, we will head back to Porteau cove and have lunch there on the beach.

Make sure to bring a lunch and your camera and a GMRS radio.

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but if anyone wants to come along for the ride, but don't have their Fiero on the road, post up or contact me and we can probably find someone to give you a ride. (I have an empty seat so could take someone if they wanted)

See you tomorrow at 10!

Hi Harrison, it looks like my family wants to go on the
mine tour as well so, I'll be the guy in the Honda CRV with
the two Chihuahua's. Hopefully the dogs are able to come
with us on the tour?
I may have to leave the group a bit early to pick my
Daughter up near the PNE though, and then catch up with
you.
Is it possible to borrow one of the extra GMRS radios when
we meet up at the pool in New West?
See soon.

Well it didn't start out as a great day weather wise, but
it ended very nicely. Ken, Jim (& family) and Laura and
I,met at Canada Games pool at 10:30, and headed up to The
Sea to Sky Highway. Light drizzle, and sunny periods were
the nature or the day. Traffic was light and we arrived in
good time, minding the speed limit as we went. when we
arrived at Britannia mine we were surprisingly welcomed by
a fellow by the name of Gerald, who at the young age of 80
still has is impeccable 85 GT Fiero. We were invited to
venture up to Squamish, and take a look at it. Jim decided
to head back to Vancouver, so Ken and I followed Gerald to
his house. Well I do say, this is a fellow that has a story
to tell, and it isn't the least bit boaring. Gerald showed
us his white 85 GT and what a beauty. Never been touched by
another mechanic, this original painted classic sits
proudly just as it would have at the dealer, (with a few
mods) that Gerald excitedly explains. Lovely mags, tires, and
a motor you could eat off off. Gerald has everything Fiero,
right down to a GT style key fob, in the shape of a slope
back. This car though a GT is a notch back. I forgot to
check mileage, so that I don't have, but one could easily
drive this immediatly, as it started, first crank. This car
is for sale! Maybe high, maybe not, $, as that is in the
eyes of the seller and those who would like a prime piece
of history. PS it is a standard coupled to the V6. Gerald
showed us around a open and lushious piece of property,
explaining details about his hobbies, and his life. Glad to
have met him. Ken, Laura and I headed back, stopping at A&W
and for gas as well as a brief stop at the new Squamish
Chief Gondola. Sunny conditions now prevailed as we headed
home to traffic and the work week. Worth the trip??? Yes!
and a big part of that was Gerald. Thanks

We minded the speed limit. Traffic reports said the police were out, but we didn't see any, even though we were pretty well the fastest cars on the road, we stayed close the the speed limit and drove "safety first".

Glenn would have noticed me slow down on the way back at the turn off for Marine Drive into Horseshoe bay, and let a BMW blow by us. That was because I have seen police cars parked hiding just on the other side of the hill often there.   Also at the bottom that long straight downhill is a prime location for a speed check.   Even the the speed limit said 80, just everybody stayed at just under 100.   It was a safe speed.

Gerald and I have two passions in common. Listening the music (he's an audiophile) and tinkering with cars.

We gotta do a club drive out and visit him again.

I'm disappointed that I couldn't go on the run, but the Formula has been off the road for a couple of weeks with a leaking water pump. Haven't had a chance to swap out the pump yet, but I need to get this car ready for the Corvette Club event.

I would've enjoyed meeting Gerald and seeing his pristine '85 GT. If he wishes to meet up with a few of us in the future, I'd be happy to make the run up there.
