Sounds good. I think I might want to do another wheel
alignment on my Fiero. But will wait until at least spring
2012.

A few questions before I hit the sack.

Are they going by hourly rate or book rate.

If book rate, which book rate so I can look up that book.

If hourly are the rest of the guys there competent on Fiero's.  There will always be times when even the best Fiero mechanic needs help.

Is there Alignment rack, string or laser?

Balancing Machine can it do inside and outside wheel balancing I don't know what that is called off the top of my head, and can they get sticky weights?

What kinda tools do they / you have now a days.  As you know as well as I do, that a 2hr job can be done in an hour if you have that perfect tool or it can take 2-3 times as long spending 6hrs on a 2hr job just because you (jaw, impact, wrench's were just a smidge off on size)

Give us the goods Chris, we really want to know.  I guess you will find out most of this after New Years though.

ok so the shop rate is $80/hr for joe blow... I am going to be getting a 20% discount on labour for club members, will be talking with the boss some more to see about possiable discount on parts as well. we go by book rate (mitchell on demand)

our wheel balancer does both types of balancing, we sell and install tires, full 4d wheel alignments, have most speciality tools (ones we don't have we purchase as soon as we find out that we dont have it), we also have the ability to do a/c.

not only are we a full mechanical shop but also a full detail shop as well...

the other mechanic that works there was also a airplane mechanic, rally driver/builder as well as off road, and also knows how to work on motorcycles so he knows what he is doing as well.

Well folks, I just picked up our car from Chris at Rally Tech.  We needed a starter installed and ended up getting the alignment looked at.

Just to show you what kind of guy Chris is, I'll describe his "out of the box" thinking when a problem popped up.

The starter he got from his supplier ended up not being a great fit.  He did his best to line it up but it was pretty loud while cranking.  So what does he do?  He takes the original nose off our old starter and mates it up to the new goodies.  Then it fit perfectly.

I like it!

He tweaked our suspension as best he could considering it needs work.  Feels much better.

Nice new shop in a great location.  I highly recommend him.

That Really Sucks Man, maybe its time you start your own home based business garage shop. Spend time home with Kierra and have her help daddy in the garage, make a few extra bucks under the table then turn it into a full blown business and open up a real shop someplace. You are one of the best Fiero mechanics I know. Even if you do it is a sideline business I am sure you could make enough to keep your head above water. I constantly have customers wanting work, but I keep turning it away as I can't seem to get out of this funk and end up just not doing anything except computer jobs.

Last fall when I had a problem with my battery system, I
took my car in to Chris at RallyTech in Coquitlam. We
didn't have a clue what was wrong with the car, just that
it took an overnight charge but went flat two or three
days later and wouldn't charge at all after 4 or 5 cycles
of charge/discharge/charge. We spent over $400 on a new
battery (a red one that really dresses up the engine
compartment) plus a few other things that might explain
what was happening to the car.

Chris diagnosed the problem right away (the ground strap
wasn't working correctly) and he also did a few other
things which made the car run really GREAT.

I have been so busy that, at the time, I forgot to thank
Chris for the great job he did on the car. I'll do it now
"Thanks a lot Chris!" The fact that his shop is just
around the corner from my second sons house is a bonus
since I can go there for a nap while the car is being
fixed.
