Not mine but would be great if you want to get a reliable V8 in your Fiero that acutlly gets good gas milage.  Its the 4.5 not the 4.9 but the install is the same and just toss in a Delta cam and get an extra 40hp.

I have a complete Cadillac 4.9 V8 drive train from a '91 Cadillac Seville. The car was in a front end accident but the engine and trans are fine. The car has about 140,000 KM on it and it comes with the 4T60E automatic transmission. You will have to come and tow the whole thing away and then you can remove whatever you want from the car. The wiring harness and computer and drive axles, etc. are all included. You get the whole car. Call R.J. at 604.618.5077.

Hmm.. thats actually pretty temping :S  Few questions if i could direct them your way capt.. how hard would you say it is to swap in one of those?   Any idea on what the MPG actually is?   I doubt it would be much worse than my stock v6... sadly.  How long do those engines last?  I know 140k isn't much really, but how much more could it have left in it (assuming propper maintience etc..)..

It's the better 4.9 not the 4.5 and it's still available. C'mon Cap, you know better than that!

the 4.5 was used in 90 cars but maybe one sneaked its way into a 91?

this actually looks like a really cool, practical, easy swap, only one problemo i see, capt, the 4.9 caddy swap is the same in your 85gt right? is yours stock? or has it been modified? im asking because as much as i like working on cars, replacing a tranny every 5000km and under doesnt really interest me...

he replaces them so much cuz they're  isuzu 5spd's i think. Specially when its 20yrs old, you cant expect it to handle a 4.9's torque for long :P    Ive been looking into some of the manual trannies listed on getrag.com, some are rated for over 400ft/lbs, and are for FWD vehicles, though i dont know how to tell what engines they can be mated to, but there are some options for manual trannies that can take the power.
And i think ill pass on this, though the price is very right. Mostly cuz i live in a complex, and storing parts car would be tricky, plus i think im gunna go for the 3.8N/A for similar power, and better MPG.

Sorry guys, I was asleep at the keyboard last night when I typed that.

My 4.9 has a few mods to it, to make it quicker than the stock motor.  Its not the peak numbers but how the 4.9 uses the power that makes me very happy with it.

As for blowing trans axles, Well ya, I go through in Isuzu about once a year.  Its part due to the age of the trans axles and part due to my driving style.  There is not a day that goes by that when I am driving the car the tires don't go up in smoke at least once.

As for fuel economy on the highway cruising I can usually get 30mpg.  In town its around 25, which is actually better than my 88GT which is pretty much stock.  (MSD Ignition, Decked Heads, Ported exhaust, custom chip)  Stock Pistons, Stock Cam, Stock Injectors.

The 4.9 is may more fun to drive than a 2.8, gets better gas mileage and just the fact that you have a V8 behind your head, for me, has a cool factor to it.

And buying the whole car like that is *THE* way to go on that swap.  You get almost all the bits you need in a 'one stop shop' type thing.

And as much as Dave hates the autos - that's also the easiest way to go about it.  Then you have a nice fast, easy to drive car, with a stock electronic auto tranny.  No hassles with clutches, new flywheels, etc.  You've got all the parts!

Just yank it all out, trim the wiring harness back to just what you need, and slap it on the cradle (ok, I'm over simplifying!!!).

ya thats the only thing that i dont like, but from what i read, the 3.8 is a fairly easy swap (whats the story w/ the 4.9 mounts, is there someone who sells em?(how hard is this swap)??  Those MPG #'s look pretty good (specially next to the 2.8 lol).. Whats the power rating for the isuzu compared to the 4sp munchies and getrags?    This is still a very temping swap, so idk yet.  What is needed to install one of those guys?  Custom axles i imagine?  Having all the parts in 1 spot would be nice...  and i imagine you could recoupe alot of that $$ from selling off parts on forums and such.  Still quite temping lol :P Is there anything in the way of performace upgrades for these engines?  Turbo kits and the like?

edit:  Oh, and how expensive are parts for these engines? Reliable?

There's a few place selling mounts 'off the shelf' now (Dickman?)
Axles are hybrids of stock GM bits.
Performance?  Take one for a drive first, then ask if you NEED more!  You'll feel like you've gone from driving a trashed duke to a hi-po 6cyl (assuming you've got a 6 now!).

The automatic car I did could almost yank the front tires when I had the front shocks out of it.  :)

Oh, im sure at first it would be more than enough... but you know how it is.. eventually you get used to it and want more.  Im still curious about the reliability of these engines, and cost of parts..

Wonder how much id be looking at for the cost of towing from richmond to abbotsford :O

There are not a lot of upgrades for the 4.9, but easy bolt on stuff, is the Delta Cam Shaft.  Gains of 20-30hp and moves the torque peak higher up.  IF you can find it, an Allanta intake is worth another 30hp.

Chip tuning should be done even you install the motor.  The chip is worth 20hp and 30lbs of torque.

GM engineered the chip to haul around a HUGE car with ease from a stoplight.  Changing the fuel curve timing and EGR gives big gains.

The motors can be setup in a Fiero to run high 14's down to low 12's with bolt on mods depending on the trans axle you use.

The Isuzu 5spd is your best for high speed driving, but explodes during drag racing.

With the Isuzu 5spd the Fiero will cruise at 200kph and not even break a sweat.

The the Muncie 4spd, and a good tune with cam, car runs a 13 second quarter mile.

Add boost and run the auto and run 12's right out of the box.
